Udupi: Minister of State for Youth Services, Sports and Fisheries K Abhayachandra Jain said that a new lawn tennis stadium will be constructed soon in the city here on Tuesday, May 26.
After inaugurating various developmental projects costing Rs 1.36 crore obtained in the form of grants by Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes in the District Stadium Ajjarkad, Jain said that a new lawn tennis stadium would be built in Ajjarkad near the indoor stadium and assured that the department would very soon release Rs 1.31 crore to construct a tennis court in the district stadium.
In his inaugural message, Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes assured funds to promote basketball in the district, thereby boosting all other sports activities. He stated that he would release funds from his MP Lad Development Funds for constructing basketball courts in all government schools. “There is no dearth of talents in India. Sports is good for the well being of every individual,” he added.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj presided over the programme. Blossom Fernandes and Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty were also present on the occasion.
