Valedictory Ceremony of SAPMUN-2019 at St Aloysius PUC

Mangaluru : The valedictory ceremony of SAPMUN-a three day Model United Nations event organized by St Aloysius Pre-University College, Mangaluru, was held in the Pretorium of the Pre-University College.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest-Dr N Santosh Hegde-Former Lokayukta-Karnataka State and Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India- opined that the veto power possessed by the five permanent members of the Security Council is not ideal for an establishment such as the United Nations where the views of 189 nations is dictated by the permanent five nations.

He also expressed his concern over the disruption of the 14-day session in 2014, when no issues of the public was discussed in the Parliament and said that the elected representatives must possess human values and be committed to their duties.

In closing, he urged the students to inculcate the values of contentment and humanism and to respect the rights and duties of others. The ceremony concluded with the chairpersons of each committee declaring the results for Best Delegate, High Commendation, Special Mention and Verbal Mention for each of the 8 committees.

Justice Hedge commended the winners with cash prizes and certificates. St Theresa’s High School won the Best Delegation award. Participants included students from High Schools, Pre-University and Degree colleges from around India.

Principal of SAPUC-Rev Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, Vice Principals-Mrs Charlotte Dsouza and Muralikrishna GM, SAPMUN-Convenor- Maxson Desilva, Coordinator- Sanjeeth Rodrigues, Secretary-General-Ms Sasha Dsouza, Director-General- Azaan Ibrahim, President- SAPMUN-Ms Letitia D’costa, among others, were present on the occasion.
