Vandeweghe, Barty win women’s doubles final in Miami Open

Miami, April 2 (IANS) American Coco Vandeweghe and Australia’s Ashleigh Barty won the women’s doubles final in the Miami Open, downing the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.

In a match that ended in just 62 minutes on Sunday, Vandeweghe and Barty crushed the Czechs 6-2, 6-1 in the last match of the tourney on Key Biscayne, the very last time it will be held at Crandon Park before moving to the Hard Rock Stadium in north Miami, reports Efe.

The Czechs had been seeded sixth in the series, but the winning pair managed to get 64 percent of their first serves in play versus just 41 percent for their rivals.

With Vandeweghe on the winning doubles side, the Florida tournament featured an American sweep this year.

Sloane Stephens won the women’s singles final on Saturday, brothers Bob and Mike Bryan took the men’s doubles and John Isner defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev earlier on Sunday in the men’s singles final.
