Vessel V-419- an Interceptor Boat Launched for the Coast Guard at Panambur

Mangaluru: Bharati Defence and Infrastructure Ltd. (BDIL), Mangaluru, the erstwhile Bharati Shipyard, on Wednesday, 31 January launched Vessel V-410, an interceptor boat for the Coast Guard. It will be officially delivered to the Coast Guard by February 20. The boat, which the Coast Guard has named as Charlie 162, was one of the 15 interceptor boats that the Defence Ministry asked BDIL to build in 2012. These boats can achieve a speed of 35 knots an hour.

The boats are propelled by Arneson Surface Drive and powered by two main engines each with a capacity of 1,650 kW. BDIL has so far delivered six interceptors boats to the Coast Guard. Four were delivered from its Goa shipyard. The Mangaluru unit of BDIL handed over an interceptor boat in November 10, 2017, and it is now operating in Gujarat.

Following delivery by February 20, the Coast Guard will station Vessel V-410 in Kochi. Each interceptor boat costs Rs 25 crore. Speaking at the launch of the interceptor vessel ‘V-410’, Narendra Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of BDIL, said BDIL has delivered five interceptor boats to Coast Guard till now. “The first interceptor boat for Coast Guard from New Mangalore shipyard was delivered on November 10. ‘V-410’, which was launched on Wednesday, will be delivered to Coast Guard by February 20. These interceptor vessels will be effective in anti-smuggling, anti-piracy operations, and also in fisheries protection and monitoring. BDIL was admitted into the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) on June 6 2017, and Dhinal Shah, partner at E&Y LLP, was appointed as the resolution professional. The company has six shipyards in the country. The company is on the revival process and the effort is under way to find a new investor to take control of the company” added Kumar.

Commander of Coast Guard Karnataka, S S Dasilla said, “We are extremely happy to receive this new boat constructed by BDIL. By the efforts of chief operating officer of BDIL, Mangaluru, Narendra Kumar, we have this boat right in due time, and for this, I am also thankful to BDIL management and its staff. I also congratulate our Coast Guard unit which will use it. This boat will be an asset for us. By launching this boat shows how eager we are to strengthen our force.”

On Wednesday, Vessel V-410 was put into the sea here. Commander of Coast Guard Karnataka, S.S. Dasilla, Deputy Inspector-General and Superintendent, Coast Guard Refit and Production team, Atul Parlikar, and president and head of BDIL Mangaluru Pavithran Alokkan participated in the ceremony.
