Video of Weeping Mother to Cremate Daughter’s Body Goes Viral
Kodagu: A video of a mother weeping to cremate her daughter at Virajpet has gone viral on the social media on August 11.
In the video, a woman along with her family members had taken her daughters body to cremate at the Virajpet crematorium. The in-charge of the crematorium demanded Rs 8000 for cremation and refused to open the gate without payment.
The woman is seen weeping and saying that she has lost everything in the floods and doesn’t have a single Rupee. We don’t have any money, we are now living at the Ganji Kendra. If the person asks us Rs 8000 for the cremation, from where can I bring the money. I have lost my daughter, what can I do? Why is the government not helping us?
A man is seen asking for the local MLA K G Bopaiah, MP Pratap Simha and the local leaders. Both the bodies were brought from Thora and are lying in the crematorium without firewood to cremate them. The government is not bothered to provide any facilities. Last year the government has sanctioned crores of rupees for the development of Madekeri but the people of Kodagu have not benefitted. Due to the heavy rains, people have lost their property and houses and are sheltered in the Ganji Kendra.
Another woman said that the in-charge of the crematorium did not open the gate, so they had to break the lock to get the dead body inside the crematorium. Now the in-charge is demanding Rs 8000 saying that he doesn’t have firewood to cremate the body. We have lost all our belongings and have come here with empty hands.
It is very sad to see the mother weeping to cremate her own daughter. Where are the local leaders? Why are they not helping the poor?
