Mumbai, April 27 (IANS) Veteran Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna, who was hospitalised earlier this month, died on Thursday morning after a prolonged illness, informed sources said. He was 70.

The actor was admitted to Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in the first week on April after reportedly suffering from severe dehydration.

The actor was the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of the Lok Sabha from the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab. The actor has featured in films like “Mere Apne”, “Insaaf” and “Amar, Akbar, Anthony”.

Mumbai, April 27 (IANS) Veteran Bollywood actor-turned-politician and former union Minister Vinod Khanna died here on Thursday morning after a prolonged illness, a close family friend said here.

He was hospitalised since over a month for suspected cancer and breathed his last at 70, Krishnamurthy, a renowned producer with Tina Films International, said.

Khanna is survived by his wife and two actor sons.

The actor was admitted to Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in the first week on April after reportedly suffering from severe dehydration.

The actor was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of the Lok Sabha from Punjab’s Gurdaspur constituency.

Starting his career with minor roles in 1969, over the years the actor built up a hugely successful career and featured in some of the biggest Bollywood hits like “Mere Apne”, “Insaaf” “Parvarish” “Muqaddar Ka Siqandar”, “Qurbani”, “Dayavaan”, “Mera Gaon Mera Desh” “Chandni” “The Burning Train” and “Amar, Akbar, Anthony” among many more, said Krishnamurthy who was associated with him for past nearly five decades.

  2. Vinod Khanna would have been a much famous actor if he had not followed Bhagwan Rajneesh and then gone to America where this Godman set up an Ashram in Oregon, which was named as Rajneeshpuram.

    Before leaving for America, this Godman said that he hated India. In Oregon, he got a massive place where he set up his Ashram, but the people of adjoining communities complained to the authorities, who arrested him, disrobed him of his multi-million dollar diamond studded robe and made him to wear a prison garb. The cops may have given him a good tanning and squeezed him here-and-there, because he hated America and returned to India with his tail between his legs.
