Vinod Shettigar murder, 4 persons awarded life imprisonment

Udupi: The Udupi district and session court pronounced life imprisonment on March 28 for four of the accused, in the brutal murder of an under-trial Vinod Shettigar in the district jail at Hiriyadka.

The district and session Judge Chandrashekhar M Joshi sentenced Muttappa (36), Nagaraja Balegar (33) Sheikh Riaz Ahmed (33) and Sharanappa Amarapur (33) to life imprisonment for murder.

Six persons were involved in the murder of Vinod Shettigar in jail. The Court has already exonerated accused Raghavendra (35) from Kukkikatte Indiranagar in this case and the mastermind of Vinod Shettigar murder Pitty Nagesh was murdered when he was out on bail.

On 14 January 2011, Vinod Shettigar (32) was stabbed to death by four jail inmates with three different knives. Vinod died of multiple injuries, organ failure, and excessive bleeding. The then Brahmavar police Inspector Krishna Murthy investigated the case and submitted the charge sheet to the court. Public prosecutor Shantibai argued on behalf of the prosecution.
