Violation of Model Code of Conduct, EC Registers Case against ‘Reverse drive’ Pune based Engineer

Udupi: The election commission officials on Saturday, April 7 at Sastan Check Post lodged a case for insulting the national flag against Pune-based engineer Santosh Rajeshirke who had started his ‘backwards drive’ from Pune on 10 January 2018, and already covered 17 states.

Santosh started from Pune, Maharashtra on 10th January 2018 and has covered 17000 kms across 17 states. While driving in reverse his Swift VDI car without any modification at a speed of 40-45 kmph on highways and 15-20 kmph in cities, covering 30 km per hour, on an average. Santosh has installed a 10 ft height national flag and two saffron flags on his car.

While Santosh was on his way to Goa, at Sastan Check post the election officials stopped his car. Since the national flag and the saffron flags come under the Model code of conduct officials instructed Santosh to remove the flags. Later Santosh removed the flags and continued his journey but the officials have registered a case against him for violating the Model code of conduct.
