Viral of Woman’s Plea Seeking Help for Husband’s Treatment gets Rs 15 lakh in 24 hrs- Sadly Man Dies

  • Viral of Woman’s Plea Seeking Help for Husband’s Treatment gets Rs 15 lakh in 24 hrs- Sadly the Man (Ranjan Shetty) Dies the same day the money was collected. In the second video, the Woman has made a request to donors not to deposit any money into her bank account, even though the bank account will be closed today ( 18 September), since it takes two days for the closure of bank accounts after requests are made. However, the money collected will be utilized for the family’s future.

Mangaluru: Social worker Mohammed Asif, who is the founder of Maimoona Foundation Apathbandhava Psycho Rehabilitation Centre, Mulki has done yet another community service- and this time helping a woman raise funds for the treatment of her ailing husband, suffering from Kidney problems. A few days back a missing Man Mahesh Patel from Rajasthan who was loitering around in Mangaluru for three years was finally reunited with his family members in City, by Mohammed Asif and his team of the Foundation. (Ref: Missing Man from Rajasthan Reunited with Family Members by Mymuna Foundation in City) Prior to this, Asif had also done an exemplary act of humanity, conducting the final rites of an elderly Hindu man, Venugopal Rao (62) of Moodbidri, who was in an orphanage since the last two years, as his family did not come forward to receive his body and conduct his cremation due to coronavirus scare.

And this kind of community service, Mohammed Asif has been doing ever since the Maimoona Foundation was opened three years ago, and has been picking up Mentally Unsound people found on the streets, and taking them to the Rehabilitation Centre, give them an extreme-makeover ( bath, shave, hair cut etc), and then take them to the hospital as out-patients or admit them, if needed. Mohammed Asif who is known for giving shelter to people who are mentally challenged, his act of humanity is always lauded by one and all.

Deceased Person Ranjesh Shetty (48)

And here we have yet another story of helping a woman getting funds for treatment of her husband. A woman from Bola village in Udupi district was in tears when she was told by a Hospital in Kodialbail, Mangaluru authorities that she may require about Rs 5 lakh for the treatment of her husband diagnosed with heart and kidney-related ailments. Seeing the plight of the woman, social worker Mohammed Asif collected her details and recorded a video of her seeking help and shared it on social media with details of her bank account, and surprisingly within 24 hours of sharing the video on social media, she received Rs 15 lakh plus in her account. However, fate had something different in store for her. Her husband breathed his last the same night when the money was already deposited in the bank account.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Mohammed Asif said, “I found Geetha Shetty, a resident of Bola village in Karkala taluk, in distress due to the critical condition of her husband, who was in the ICU of a hospital in the city, and later he was transferred to the Hospital in Deralakatte. Her husband Ranjesh Shetty, staff in a liquor shop, was in critical condition and Geetha didn’t have the money required for his treatment. She had already spent nearly Rs 10 lakh for her husband’s treatment earlier. Geetha had only Rs 50,000 that she got after selling jewellery. Following this, I recorded a video of her seeking help, and the same was shared on social media with details of her bank account”.

“Though we had sought Rs 7 lakh, help poured in from donors and the account was credited with Rs 15 lakh plus within 24 hours. I had shared another video of Geetha thanking donors who transferred Rs 15 lakh to her account. She also had requested people not to send money since her account has more money, the actual requirement. However, Shetty breathed his last at around 7 pm on Wednesday. They had already sold their property and were living in a rented house with their nine-year-old son. The money deposited in her account will be used for their future”, added Asif.

In conclusion, this story shows the generosity of people from Dakshina Kannada, including Mangaluru, who are ever ready to help someone in distress, looking for funds for hospital/treatment expenses, to build a collapsed house, etc. And here we have a record collection of Rs 15 lakhs made within a day after the woman’s plea seeking funds for her husband’s treatment went viral on social media thanks to Mohammed Asif for being a Good Samaritan. This story will motivate others too, to help someone in need, and you will be truly blessed.

I end this column with thought-provoking words of Saint Mother Teresa:

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them. Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love. If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. At the end of life, we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by “I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in. I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things. A life not lived for others is not a life. Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”
