Volakadu School to host State-level karate championship
Udupi: The district administration, Department of Public Instruction and Volakadu government High School has jointly organised a State-level Karate Championship here on November 25 to 27 said Amrit Shenoy working president of the committee.
Speaking at a press meet held at the press club here Amrit said that, More than 1500 participants from primary and high schools from 34 districts are expected to take part in the event. Accommodation and food for players, team managers and instructors will be arranged by the school. The competition will be held in Under-14 category for the boys and girls of primary school in five divisions based on weight, while it will be held in the Under-17 category for high school boys and girls in nine divisions, based on the weight of the participants, he said.
The inauguration will be held on November 25 evening at 5:00 pm. Before the inauguration, a procession will be held from Jodukatte to Volakadu School. Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge and also minister for state sports, fisheries and youth service will inaugurate the event. Tanveer Sait state education minister, Dinakar Babu president Udupi ZP, Shobha Karandlaje MP Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Oscar Fernandes MP Rajya Sabha, Sunil Kumar MLA Karkala, Vinay Kumar Sorake MLA Kaup, Haladi Srinivas Shetty MLA Kundapur, Gopal Poojary MLA Byndoor, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Capt Ganesh Karnik, Pratap Chandra Shetty MLC’s will be the chief guests. The valedictory function and prize distribution will be held on November 27 morning at 11:30. Meenakshi Madhava Bannaje president of Udupi City Municipal Council will be the chief guest for the function, he added.
Nirmala B Headmistress of the school, S Madhukar, Raviraj Nayak, Naagbhooshan, Nithyananda Kemmannu and others were present.
