Paris, June 8 (IANS) Swiss tennis ace Stanislas Wawrinka has backed World No.1 Novak Djokovic to win the French Open title one day after defeating the Serb in the final at Roland Garros.

The World No.4 beat Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 to win his second major title on Sunday evening.

“I’m sure he’s going to get it one one day because he’s so strong. I know he’s looking badly and desperately for this title. The way he was playing these two weeks was just amazing,” Wawrinka was quoted as saying by BBC.

The Serb’s 28-match winning streak was broken as Wawrinka recovered from a set down to clinch the summit clash with a final tally of 60 winners, illustrating his aggressive approach.

“That’s the way I have to play if I want to beat him, I’m still surprised the way I played because I played amazing today. I was really nervous but I didn’t choke. I was always going for my shot, always going for the right play,” he said.

With a new world ranking of four, Wawrinka is now firmly among the favourites heading to Wimbledon, but he continues to see himself behind the likes of Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.

“I’m not as strong as the ‘big four’. They are winning everything. But I’m strong enough to win some big titles sometimes during the years. I didn’t find the way to play my best game every tournament, but I’m still okay and satisfied with my career so far,” he said.
