‘Why Do We Need ‘Gau Raksha Dal’, When We Have Police Dept To Do the Job’- SDPI

Mangaluru: Tit for Tat-in response to the call given by Jagadish Shenava, District President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club that Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal will form a “Gau Rakshak Dal’ {Cow Protectors}, the Dakshina Kannada District Committee of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has urged the District and City Police Department to interfere in this regard and see that no such Cow Protectors take birth?

In a press release issued by District President of SDPI- Athaullah Jokatte, states that, “Formation of Gau Rakshak Dal is a clear indication to start mob lynching in the name of cow protection by VHP and BD. Why do we need such Cow Protectors, when that job of cow theft can be prevented by the police department if they make up their mind. The concerned police authorities have to plan in preventing cow thefts from happening. Special teams need to be formed by the police department to curb these cow thefts, and not allow saffron organizations to control such issues. And for some reason the police allow this Gau Rakshak Dal to function, chances are that we could see mob lynching and attacks here in DK like it has been recently taking place in North India. The police department has to take immediate action and prevent such formation of Gau Rakshak Dal.”

In the meantime, Meat Traders’ Association has also condemned the formation of ‘Gau Raksha Dal’. In a statement to the media by Ali Hassan, President of Meat Traders’ Association, Mangaluru, where he mentions, ” We condemn the call given by VHP leader Jagadish Shenava to form ‘Gau Raksha Dal’, this is nonsense. A cow lover knows how to care, love and protect a cow. This is nothing but to create communal disharmony in the name of cow protection. This is a peaceful district, and controversial issues like these will spark off violence and hate. The police have to stop this ‘Gau Rakshak Dal’ before it takes birth, in order to prevent any untoward incidents.”
