Will Announce Names of defaulters if Pending Water Bills are not Paid within 15 days – Mayor

Mangaluru: More than 50,000 people have not paid the MCC water bills. If the bills are not settled within 15 days, we will serve notice and announce the names of defaulters. The highest pending bills are Rs 7.47 lakh, Rs 7.41 and Rs 7.3 lakh for the bills pending since 2004″, said Mayor Kavitha Sanil in a press meet at her chamber, MCC premises here on August 10.

Addressing the mediapersons Mayor Kavitha said, “From 2004 many people have failed to pay the water bills to the MCC. We will give them 15 days time for payment. We need to carry out development work for the city for which funds are necessary. If people stop paying the bills how is it possible to develop the city? Rs 22.37 crore was pending after I become the Mayor notices were served to defaulters and water supply was disconnected. After disconnecting water supply, we received a payment of Rs 2crore.”

Kavitha further said, “In MCC limits there are 85000 connections of which 50,000 are connection holders including industries and domestic have not paid the bills. The highest pending amount is Rs 7.47lakh which is pending since 2004. There are 166 people whose bills are above Rupees 1 lakh, 350 above Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh and 2780 of them above Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. In all most of the rich people have not paid their water bills.”

When asked about the notice served to the Mayor and the MCC Commissioner for raiding the Massage Parlour, Mayor Kavitha said, “How is it possible to appear before the court in the morning on August 9 if I receive the notice in the evening at 3:30 pm on the same day?. Regarding the raid, we have not given them the license for a massage Parlour. They had obtained the license for a Saloon and when we raided the place, illegal activities were being carried out there.”

When asked about the immersion of Ganesh Idol into the ponds, Mayor Kavitha said, “I am the member of the Pollution control board and we had a meeting in Bengaluru. Only mud idols can be immersed in the ponds and not the POP idols. We will think of taking action if anyone immerses POP idols in the pond”.

Former Mayor Sashidhar Hedge, Sabitha Misquith and others were also present.
