Kolkata, Dec 29 (IANS) Ace cueist Sourav Kothari said he will try to put in his best performance in the fifth Indian National 6-Red Snooker Championship at the Bengal Rowing Club (BRC) which started on Tuesday.

The top two players from the tournament will join current 6-Red world champion Pankaj Advani to represent India at the 2016 Asian 6-Red Championship to be played in Abu Dhabi in April 2016.

“I hope I can do well here. Will try and foot put my best foot forward. But this is a format which is more like Twenty20 cricket, so anybody can beat anybody. It is going to be tough,” Kothari told media persons here.

“We are stepping into a great year. The Indians have been doing well in the last few years. So every time we travel abroad we are expected to win. So there is pressure on us to live up to the expectations,” he said referring to the upcoming foreign competitions in 2016.

The Kolkata cueist is expected to face a tough challenge from the likes of Brijesh Damani and Aditya Mehta — India’s only snooker professional.

In the opening ceremony on Tuesday, the organisers also promised of a cash reward to the player who can make three breaks of 75.

“We are giving Rs.50,000 as cash prize for the player who can make three breaks of 75,” former world champion and member of the organising committee, Manoj Kothari said.
