With Theme ‘God’s Grace’ CSI Church to host ‘ World Sunday School Day’

With Theme ‘God’s Grace’ CSI Sushanthi Church-Mercara Hill, Mangaluru will host ‘World Sunday School Day’ (WSSD) on 1 November

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Rev Praveen Maben- Presbyter-in-charge said, ” DK area council of the CSI Karnataka southern Diocese and CSI Sushanthi Church- Mercara Hill, Mangaluru will jointly organize the “World Sunday School Day” aka ‘Children Festival’ on Tuesday, 1 November from 8.30 am onwards. The Sunday School Movement was started by Robert Raikes in England in 1780’s. Moral teaching among the children was the primary impulse of the movement. With the same impulse the movement has spread all over the world, including India”.

He further said, ” The Sunday School is conducted in most of the Churches in India on every Sunday either before or after the worship service. The members of the Church who serve as the teachers in these classes render their service voluntarily without expecting any honorarium. Christian virtue, spiritual songs and moral lessons are taught in these classes. The children from all the Churches are brought together once in a year on 1 November, and on this day we celebrate “WSSD”. This year WSSD is hosted by CSI Sushanthi Church, where a number of events for children such as Street Play, Bible Quiz, Pick and Act, Drawing, Picture Puzzle, Treasure Hunt etc are planned for the day, with all these events focused on the theme ‘God’s Grace’.”

Rt Rev Mohan Manoraj-Bishop, CSI-KSD will inaugurate the programme and deliver the message in the Divine Service. Other guests for the morning service include-Rev M Prabhuraj- Area Chairman, Rt Rev Dr CL Furtado- Retd. Bishop, CSI-KSD, and Renold Santhosh Kumar Johnas-Project Management Consultant with Royal Dutch Shell. For the valedictory function the same evening, chief guests are- Rev John J Amanna- Retired Presbyter, Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC- Superior and Jt Secretary, St Agnes Institutions, Mangaluru, Sr Dr Maria Sudeepa AC- Headmistress, St Agnes High School, Mangaluru, along with guests of honor namely- Rev KP Devakumar-VP, CSI-KSD, V Isaac Vijayashekar- Secretary, CSI-KSD, Udayaraj Kaunds-Treasurer, CSI-KSD, Gladys Silver- Senior Music Director, CSI Sushanthi Church. Rev Praveen Maben- Presbyter-in-charge of the Host Church, Rev Sebastian Jathanna- Area Vice chairman, Rev Andrew Johan- Area Treasurer, M/s Jayavanthi Paul-Area Secretary, and Fredrick Soans- CSI Sushanthi Sunday school Treasurer will also grace the occasion.

The activities will be held at St Agnes High School ground and also at CSI Sushanthi Church premises, with the valedictory function to be held at St Agnes High School auditorium. Mrs Jayavanthi Paul, Sandhya Johnas, Alwyn Amanna and Veena Kotian, the board members of CSI Sushanthi Church were also present during the press meet.
