Woman claiming to be Doctor Dupes Brahmavar Doctor Rs 2 lakh

Udupi: A man claiming to be a doctor working in Venezuela had allegedly duped a Bengaluru doctor of Rs 21.4 lakh in a marriage proposal scam some time ago.

In a similar way, a woman claiming to be a doctor working in London allegedly duped a Brahmavar doctor of Rs 2 lakh through facebook chat.

Dr Praveen Kumar resident of Brahmavar received a friend request on facebook from Kamilla Gampi working in London as a doctor. After he accepted her friend request both started chatting frequently. On April 30 Dr Praveen received a call from Kamilla asking for help saying that she was arrested by the customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. She said that the customs officials were demanding Rs 2 Lakh Indian currency. Even though she had Pounds, the officials were not ready to accept them. She requested Dr Praveen to send her the Indian currency to her ICICI Bank account. Dr Praveen transferred Rs 50000 through the Mobile app and the remaining amount Rs 1,45,700/- was transferred through RTGS from Syndicate Bank.

Once she received the money she disconnected her phone and also deactivated her facebook account. Dr Praveen made several attempts to contact her, before realizing that he had been duped.

Later Dr Praveen filed a complaint at the SEN police station in this regard.
