‘Yeddyurappa is not a Lingayat’ – Sanehalli Swamiji

Udupi: Taralabalu Shakha Maths Sanehalli Panditharadhya Shivacharya Swamiji has questioned the credibility of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s assertion of being a Lingayat.

Speaking to mediapersons during the Matte Kalyana programme oragnised in Udupi on Friday, August 2, the Swamiji said that the Lingayat tag was attached to Yediyurappa by some people who had poor knowledge about the decorum followed by the Lingayats.

The Swamiji said that a Lingayat was one who follows the religion in his daily life. Yeddyurappa is not a Lingayat, because he doesn’t follow the path identified as the Lingayat, he added. The Swamiji said that he would not go into the details as everyone knows about Yeddyurappa.

He said, if Yeddyurappa offered money to the Math, then he would not accept it. “If the state government led by Yeddyurappa envisions any project for the Math and releases the grant, then it is acceptable,” he said. He also criticised former chief ministers Siddaramaiah and H D Kumaraswamy for donating money directly to the Maths.

Condemning the Pejawar Maths Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, the Swamiji said that the Pejawar Swamiji sees Lord Shiva as a firm entity serving his devotees, while in the Lingayat religion, Lord Shiva is not any distantly located power but it is the epitome of true conscience within.

He invited the Pejawar Swamiji for a debate on the Lingayat and Veerashaiva sects being part of Hinduism in Chitradurga but after the month of August as he was busy in organising the ‘Matte Kalyana’ programme.
