Rubavu (Rwanda), Jan 20 (IANS) Zambia beat Zimbabwe 1-0 while Uganda drew 2-2 against Mali in the Africa National football Championships at Umuganda Stadium.

Chipolopolo’s Isaac Chansa scored for Zambia at the 58th minute to give Zambia the lead in a Group D match on Tuesday, reports Xinhua.

Zimbabwe had several chances but failed to take advantage due to a solid Zambian defence.

Meanwhile, in the group’s other match, Uganda started the game well. They led 2-1 in the 59th minute. But Mali equalised the next minute through Hamidou Sinayoko.

Ugandan defender Joseph Ochaya scored the first goal, slotting the ball in an empty net in the 11th minute from a free-kick by Farouk Miya.

Mali put pressure, and they got the equaliser exactly when Sedou Keita got it through a left-footed shot.

Uganda led the game after winning a penalty after Erisa Sekisambu was fouled inside the box. Farouk Miya scored in the 41st minute.

Uganda will play Zimbabwe on Friday while Zambia will meet Mali.
