Manipal: Education and health play a prominent part in shaping the society, Udupi district should effectively render health services and impart quality education. The district should not receive any complaints related to health and education for 5 years said Lokayuktha Justice P Vishwanath Shetty. He was speaking while chairing a meeting with departmental heads of various departments of the district at Rajathadri, Manipal here on February 23.

Officials should connect with people effectively, the anti-graft agency should receive minimum complaints from the district. Children should not be deprived of education. Deputy Director of Public Instruction explained the education promoted among Koraga community, Prerana programme for girls and other schemes implemented by the education department in the district. The Lokayuktha said that he will personally interact during the counselling programme organised for the parents of children of the Koraga community.

The government health schemes should effectively benefit the poor, it should centre towards building faith in the people. There are numerous cases of private hospitals harassing the poor patients, government hospitals should provide better health care to the patients, and the anti-graft agency should not receive any random complaints on health. Hospitals should not promote corruption but it should centre towards providing efficient health care. C-section surgery has become a profit making business, health services should not be compromised.

Legal action will be initiated against those who fail to fulfil their duties in a transparent manner. He also reviewed the Agriculture, Horticulture, Panchayat, Social Welfare, Animal Husbandry, Police and other departments.

Time is the prominent factor, if officials fail to execute the work in the given time frame, the anti-graft agency will initiate necessary action. The officials also provided information on works executed by various departments.

The programme implemented for people should reach the people effectively. The information on any barriers preventing in implementing these programme should be conveyed to the Lokayuktha.

DCF presented information on the forest department, Lokayukta gave a call for a stringent vigil for forest conservation. He advised the fisheries department to write a letter to the government for increasing funds for fishing disaster management.

The Fair price shops should be monitored. Stringent action will be initiated if sand mining is carried out violating the law.
Lokayuktha is firm on protecting interests of the people, no one can ruin the Lokayuktha. Deputy Commissioner will provide a legal remedy for sand mining, but if rules are violated be prepared for legal action. Stored sand has to be seized. Lokayuktha also said that the set back rule has to be followed during building construction.
