Mangaluru: District Administration Gears up for Aati-Koota at Pilikula Nisargadhama

Mangaluru: Aati Koota will be held at Dr Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama on August 9, said the Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim in a press meet held at the DC office here on August 7.

Addressing the mediapersons DC Ibrahim said that the Aati Koota event will be unique. There will be various competitions including Aati Kalinja’ dress competition, Aati Kalinja dance, face painting, Tulu traditional songs, Tala Maddale, Chikkamela Yakshagana, Aati Special delicacies, fresh fish delicacies, quiz on plants and tulu proverbs, transplantation of paddy seedlings, sale and exhibition of fruits, plants, food products and handicrafts, philatelic and Numismatic exhibition. The Pilikula Aati Koota – 2015 will be inaugurated near Guthumane and Opposite Pilikula Zoo.

He further said that every month programmes will be held based on the significance of the particular month. We will print a calendar and identify the festivals celebrated in the particular month. This year there is no much rain fall and on August 9, it will be a sunny day. From 10 am to 2 pm we will have various competitions and evening we will have a concluding ceremony.

The special Aati lunch will be served at Guthumane and ethnic food will be served to the people who have booked in advance at Guthu Mane, others can pay on spot and have lunch. The tickets are available at Parampara, Kadri.

He also said that youngsters now do not know what is Aati, to bring awareness among the youth we have organized this Koota. We are trying to give a modern touch to Aati, the whole purpose is to bring awareness among people about the significance of the Aati month. It is not a commercial venture, it is to attract the people towards Pilikula and retain our traditions and culture.

There will be prizes for Aati Kalinja’ dress competition, Tulu traditional songs and Chennemane competitions.

President, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, executive director of Pilikula Nisargadhama S A Prabhakara Sharma, Director of Pilikula H Jayaprakash Bhandary, Information officer Khader Shah, Yathish Baikampady and others were also present.
