Mangaluru: Moodbidri Prashant Murder Case, Four More Arrested

Mangaluru: Police commissioner S Murugan held a press meet in connection with the murder case of Prashant Poojary of Moodbidri, at his office here, on October 20.

Addressing the mediapersons, Murugan said that on October 9, a flower vendor PrashantPoojary was murdered near the Samaja Mandir Moodbidri and the Mangaluru police have succeeded in arresting four more persons in this case.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Sherif (42), a resident of Todar; Mustafa(28) from Kavoor; Mohammed Mustafa (25) from Bejai and Kabeer (28). During the investigation, the accused have revealed the reason behind the murder. The arrested have also been previously involved in crimes in Handel and Permude.

Mustafa, Mohammed Mustafa and Kabeer are directly involved in the murder of Prashant.Mohammed Sherif provided information about the presence of Prashant Poojary in his shop on the day of murder. During interrogation, it was learnt that the accused were also involved in the Handel attack case on September 20. They came in a bike and attacked Ashok andVasu with a machete. On September 20, they also attempted to kill Jaya Kotian at Permudewhile travelling on three bikes.

Murugan also said that in the Prashant murder case, eight people have already been arrested and search is on for the others involved in the case.

Murugan dispelled rumors circulating in the social and regular media about leaders being involved. “Mangaluru is a very sensitive area and prone to communal violence. Some anti-social elements are trying to spoil the harmony in the society.” He also said that action will be taken against those who circulate false rumours and create fear among the people. “Some media are also publishing false news. We are trying to find out the people who are posting false rumours on WhatsApp and other social media to take action against them,” he added.

DCP of Crime Dr Sanjeev M Patil was also present.
