Mangaluru: Commuters and motorists will be surprised tomorrow morning (March 6, 2016) when they see that only one lane is opened between Kankanady Pumpwell up to Padil Junction stretch. Presently road construction is going on this NH-48 to convert it into a four-lane highway. The one-lane will be open for traffic coming from Padil and going towards Kankanady Pumpwell. Traffic going towards Padil/BC Rd/Puttur/Bangalore, will have to take a diversion near the Pumpwell Circle and proceed towards highway leading towards Nanthoor, and then via Bikarnakatte-Padil- the bus-stop for this route has been moved from Pumpwell to opposite of Omega hospital.
Speaking to Mangalorean.com, area corporator (48th Ward) Asha D’Silva said, ” I know it will be inconvenient for the commuters and motorists due to this lane closure. But it was decided during the meeting between MCC officials and Highway authorities, that the only way to speed up the road work and to complete it soon, is by opening only one lane. Presently the work has been slowing down since traffic is flowing both ways, and it has been hectic for the workers to continue their work smoothly. Residents on this road stretch, commuters and motorists will have to bear the inconvenience for a month or so “.
So for the kind information of all those taking this road stretch tomorrow, please make sure you start early for your work place or shopping or other appointments- because you will be looking forward for a slow moving traffic due to heavy traffic taking this route-also could be traffic jam too!
