101 PUC Students Receive Msgr. Leslie Shenoy Scholarships from Catholic Board of Education
Mangaluru: The Catholic Board of Education (CBE), Diocese of Mangalore, disbursed the third annual Msgr. Leslie F. Shenoy Scholarships to 101 deserving Pre-University Course (PUC) students studying in CBE-managed institutions on Tuesday. The scholarship distribution programme, aimed at supporting economically disadvantaged and academically meritorious students, was held at Shanthi Kiran Pastoral Institute, Bajjodi.
The formal programme was preceded by a comprehensive career guidance and motivational session conducted by renowned career consultant Prof. Dr. Ronald Pinto, Director of the Institute for Individual Development, Mangaluru. Addressing the students and their parents, Prof. Dr. Pinto highlighted various career pathways and encouraged students to consider civil services examinations such as UPSC and KPSC, the defence forces, banking, and other professional competitive examinations. He emphasised the importance of goal-setting, skill development, and dedicated preparation for achieving career excellence.
The programme began with a prayer led by students of Kripa Sadan, Bajpe. Rev. Dr. Praveen Leo Lasrado, Secretary of the CBE, delivered the welcome address and acknowledged the continued impact of the scholarship endowment fund.
Before the formal speeches, the gathering respectfully remembered the late Msgr. Leslie F. Shenoy. A floral tribute was paid to his portrait, followed by prayers for the repose of his soul.
Rev. Fr. Antony Shera, Parish Priest of Mulki and former Secretary of the CBE, addressed the gathering. Having played an instrumental role in establishing the scholarship fund along with Msgr. Shenoy, he offered words of encouragement to the beneficiaries.
“Education is your primary duty at this stage. Strive for academic excellence, remain grounded in your values, and remember to extend a helping hand to others in the future, just as you have been helped today,” Fr. Shera said.
The chief guest, Mr. Goldwyn Vas, nephew of the late Msgr. Leslie Shenoy, travelled from the United States to attend the programme. The CBE felicitated him in recognition of his continued support for the initiative.
In his address, Mr. Vas encouraged the students and their parents to move forward with courage and gratitude, achieve success in life and remember those who supported them on their journey. He urged the students to be ambitious, work hard, and pray for the soul of his late uncle. He subsequently distributed the scholarships to the 101 beneficiaries.
Rev. Fr. Santhosh Rodrigues, Director of Shanthi Kiran Pastoral Institute, Bajjodi, also addressed the gathering.
“This financial support is a stepping stone for your future. Utilise this opportunity wisely to build a strong foundation for your careers and become responsible members of society,” he said.
The programme was compered by Mr. Lancy Rodrigues, Headmaster of St. Thomas Higher Primary School, Chelur. Mrs. Preethi Gomes proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with a grace before meals led by Rev. Fr. Santhosh Rodrigues, followed by a group photograph and lunch.
