Student Drowns in Temple Pond in Udupi

Udupi: In a tragic incident, a 15-year-old student drowned in the pond of the Sri Lakshmi Venkataramana Temple at Tenka Pete in Udupi on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Aditya Naik (15), son of Krishna Naik of Kukkikatte, Bellampalli. According to reports, Aditya went to the temple with a relative while a bhajan programme was in progress.

It is said that as devotees entered the temple pond to bathe and swim as part of the religious gathering, Aditya also stepped into the water. However, the relative who accompanied him did not enter the pond because they were unable to swim. Aditya reportedly ventured into the middle of the pond and drowned after going missing in the water.

Following the alarm, temple authorities immediately informed renowned diver Eshwar Malpe, who rushed to the spot and began a search operation. After nearly an hour of searching, Aditya was recovered from the pond.

He was found in critical condition and was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Udupi. Despite medical attention, doctors declared him dead after examination.

The Udupi City Police also reached the location and have begun an investigation into the incident.
