Bengaluru: Karnataka: Polling ends for 25 MLC seats, counting on Dec 30

Bengaluru,  Agencies: Polling ended in elections for 25 seats of the Karnataka Legislative Council today.

A total of 1,07,123 voters were eligible to vote in the exercise, including members of all urban and rural local bodies and MLAs.

The Congress fielded candidates in 21 constituencies, while the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (Secular) fielded candidates in 20 and 18 constituencies respectively.

Earlier, JD(S) leaders, BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, TA Saravana and Akanda Srinivas Murthy, said that they have cast their votes in favor of Congress Candidate M Narayan Murthy in Bengaluru.

After casting his vote in BBMP office, Chamrajpete MLA Zameer said, “We have not received any order from our high command. Neither former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda nor HD Kumaraswamy has passed whip to our party. We were free to vote for any candidate of our choice.”

Several leaders including Former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurapa, and Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda cast their votes in the morning.

The counting of votes will take place on December 30.
