7th National-level Lagori Championship 2018 to Kick Off on Jan 6

Mangaluru: For those who are not aware of the Game Lagori- which is also known as Dikori or lagoori, Lingocha, Pithu (Punjabi), Palli Patti (Karimnagar), Pitto (Rajasthan), Pittu (Bengal) or Satoliya (Madhya Pradesh) is a game in India involving a ball and a pile of flat stones, generally played between two teams in a large outdoor area. A member of one team (the seekers) throws a tennis ball at a pile of stones to knock them over. The seekers then try to restore the pile of stones while the opposing team (the hitters) throws the ball at them. If the ball touches a seeker, he is out and his team continues without him. A seeker can always safeguard himself by touching an opposite team member before the ball hits him.

Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, organizer of Lagori Tournament Deepak Gangoli (Proprietor of Pathway events) said, “To bring back the memories of Lagori game which we all used to play during our childhood, we had organized the District Level Lagori Tournament last year, which was a sheer success. Coming to know about our District level Lagori tournament success, the Lagori Federation of India contacted us and were eager to host a National Level Lagori Tournament in Mangaluru, for which we readily agreed. Therefore the 7th National Level Lagori tournament will be organized at Karavali Utsav grounds on 6th and 7th January 2018.

“Around 15 teams will be participating in the forthcoming tournament, to name a few, from Jammu & Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Pune, Karnataka, Goa, among others. Apart from trophies, the winners will take home attractive cash prizes which will be decided by the Federation. The Pathway team has taken the responsibility to host this tournament.
