St. Agnes Special School-Bendore to Usher in the Golden Jubilee Year

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Mangaluru Press Club, Sr Maria Shruthi AC-the Principal of St. Agnes Special School said, “St Agnes Special school, Bendore-Mangaluru which was started as the Centenary memorial of The Apostolic Carmel Congregation in 1970 August 4th is in the threshold of celebrating its Golden Jubilee. Sr. Maria Jyothi was the Founder Principal of the School and initiated the project with only five intellectually disabled children, which has now grown up to nurturing 300 children. The school which adopted the motto “In Love We Grow” has become a haven of love and hope. At present, for 300 children on roll in the Golden Year of its establishment”.

Sr Shruthi further said, “As the first school of this kind in the Districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, the school helped hundreds of children with disabilities in rehabilitating them in the school programme and those after the age of 18, in the Vocational Training Programme. St Agnes Special School (SASS) Mangaluru, educates, taps, and develops the potentialities of these children and youth, both boys and girls, from the age of 3, through the Early intervention, Academic, Pre-Vocational, Vocational, Home-Science and Computer Training Programmes of the campus. Besides, talented students compete in Sports Events at the State, National and International levels under the auspices of Special Olympics. They also take part in the Citizenship programmes of Bharath Scouts and Guides, Cubs and Bulbuls camps.

“As we inaugurate the Golden Year on 6th August 2019 at 10.15 am where Sr Maria Shamita AC-the Provincial Superior AC Karnataka Province will be chief guest joined by other guests of honor and well-wishers, we have planned 50 activities to celebrate this event through the year. Some of the major activities are, Sports meet, Cultural competitions, Camps. PTA meet, old students reunion and the fundraising programme – which is a Comedy Drama “Pushpakkana Imana” by Tulu Actor/Director Devadas Kapikad. We will culminate our celebration with its finale at the end of the year 2020” added Sr Shruthi AC.

Sr Maria Laveena AC-Vice Principal of SASS, Irene Pinto-President of PTA of SASS, Agnelo D’Souza, and Balakrishna P- both Executive Members of PTA-SASS were also present during the press meet.

  1. Special children are children with special needs.Children with special needs require extra attention, teaching, care – and Love!. St. Agnes Special School (SASS) does just that. I wish the School Management, Teachers, Staff and Parents for your dedication though the years to make these children feel they are loved and cared for in a special way.
