MP Chowta Urges Home Minister Shah to Transfer Suhas Shetty Murder Case to NIA

New Delhi: Member of Parliament (MP), Captain Brijesh Chowta, has formally requested Home Minister Amit Shah to transfer the investigation of the murder of Suhas Shetty to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Shetty, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) worker, was murdered in Bajpe on the evening of May 1st, 2025.

In a letter addressed to the Home Minister, MP Chowta expressed his “deep anguish and grave concern” over the incident. He described the murder as a “shocking and cold-blooded act” that has “shaken the people of the entire coastal Karnataka region to the core.”

MP Chowta argued that Shetty’s murder is not an isolated event but part of a “larger pattern of growing lawlessness, emboldened Islamic radicalism, and anti-national elements” operating in coastal Karnataka. He referenced the previous murder of Praveen Nettaru, allegedly by activists of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI), drawing a parallel to the current case.

The letter explicitly cites the “possibility of involvement of activists from the banned PFI organisation” as justification for transferring the investigation to the NIA. MP Chowta emphasized the Shetty family’s distress and their expectation of justice.

He further stated that the nation “cannot afford to allow radical, anti-national, and jihadi forces to fester in any part of the country,” and stressed the need to dismantle such networks and restore public faith in the rule of law.

The MP concluded his letter by requesting the Home Minister’s intervention to ensure that all individuals involved in the murder, including those who supported and financed it, are brought to justice swiftly and decisively.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has yet to release an official statement regarding the request. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
