A Total Women Empowerment! Bevy of Women Ran/Walk for a Good Cause to Mark Intl Women’s Day

A Total women Empowerment! Bevy of Women Ran/Walk ( 5 km Run/3 Km Walk) for a Good Cause to Mark International Women’s Day (IWD) on Sun 8 March organized by Ayog Enterprises, and Medimade Solutions, Mangaluru, in association with various Women Organizations like Lions/Lioness Clubs, Inner Wheel Club, also DKMUL and others.

Mangaluru: Being a lazy Sunday, while most people were still in bed, but nearly 600 plus women got up early, adorned themselves in perfect outfits, some in sarees, some looking gorgeous in their make-up and jewellery, assembled at Ramakrishna College ground (Bunts Hostel premises) by 6 am on Sunday 8 March 2020 morning, to take part in the ‘Mangaluru Women Walk/Run 2020’ event, to mark International Women’s Day, organized by Ayog Enterprises and Medimade Solutions, Mangaluru in association with many other Women Organizations, to bring awareness on the theme of IWD “#EachForEqual”, to bring about gender equality.
Sunday morning saw all these pretty women all geared up for the Walk and Run, to prove to the males their unstoppable spirit to the sport of Running and Walking. Prior to the walk and run, they all warmed up with a Zumba session choreographed by Ms Zen Shan, along with her team members, Ms Karen and Sachin, from Shan’s Fit Fusion, Mangaluru. It was amazing to see the women/girl participants, predominately in mixed ages from 4 years till 79 years old swaying their hips and bodies to the Zumba beat, well-conducted by Ms Shan and her duo team.

Ms Asha Jyothi Rai-President of Asare Charitable Trust; Ms Soujanya Hegde- a celebrity and winner of ‘Mrs. Popular’ at ‘Haute Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2017, along with board members of DKMUL flagged off the 5 Km Run, followed by 3 Km Walk. Prior to the flag off, Ms Asha Rai addressing the feminine crowd said, “This is indeed a great opportunity for women to walk and run irrespective of age, for a healthy lifestyle. Events like these will surely encourage women to come forward and unleash their talents. My compliments to the organizers for this unique event, and to all the women for taking up the gauntlet to participate in this event”.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, one of the organizers, Rajesh of Medimade Solutions said, “This is an awareness programme on keeping oneself healthy and fit because keeping fit is very important for women as well. I am happy to note that hundreds of women of all ages had joined in this event, to make it a successful venture, and to bring awareness on the IWD theme “#EachForEqual”. Our aim was also to bridge the gap between their social obligations and personal need for fitness and self-empowerment. The idea was to encourage women to take up running/walking as their daily lifestyle/exercise, and by doing so, they can take charge of their health while overcoming any stress or problems”

International Women’s Day takes place on 8 March 2020, and this year’s campaign, #EachForEqual, drew attention to the difference individuals can make. “An equal world is an enabled world” – and every one of us can do our bit to bring about gender equality. That’s the core message of #EachForEqual, the campaign at the centre of this year’s International Women’s Day. It sought to draw attention to the idea that gender inequality isn’t a women’s issue, but an economic one – as gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive. And by celebrating women’s achievement, raising awareness of bias and calling out inequality, the campaign says, we can all help to bring about change.

As the campaign highlights, forging equality in these areas and more is crucial to a “healthier, wealthier and more harmonious” world. Gender parity is highly regarded as a benchmark of progress and has a direct bearing on whether or not economies and societies thrive. While International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on 8 March every year in honour of Women’s remarkable contributions to society, locally here in Mangaluru, Ayog Enterprises, Mangaluru and Medimade Solutions, Mangaluru, put in their efforts to observe IWD.

No doubt that a woman has the power to create, nurture and transform. Today, women across the globe actively participate in politics, education, social work, corporate, sports, research and have left their footprints. International Women’s Day is a special day dedicated only to women and it is a commemoration of their role in our lives. 3 Km Run/Walk commenced from Ramakrishna College to Mallikatta ground and back to the starting point; while 5 Km Run/Walk started from Ramakrishna College and proceed through Mallikatta, Kadri Kambla Road and culminate at the starting point. T-shirts and pink colour ribbon were provided to all participants.

DKMUL president Raviraj Hegde, Dr G V Hegde- Managing Director of DKMUL, Jayadevappa- Manager at DKMUL, Nagaraj Prabhu- Area Manager of HDFC Ergo Health, in the presence of Ms K C Madhura of Ayog Enterprises, Rajesh of Medimade Solutions and others, handed over participation certificates to everyone who took part in the event. During the prize distribution ceremony, chief guest Raviraj Hegde addressing the audience said, “Women’s Day provides a useful opportunity to reinforce the fact that everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender-balanced world. This is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. I am happy to associate on the part of DKMUL with the organizers to extend our support for such good cause, which can make a difference in the society”

“We should remember that an equal world is an enabled world, and the rise of women is not about the fall of men. Everyone can play a role in forging gender parity. Gender balance is not a women’s issue, it’s an economic issue. Advocacy, inclusive mindsets and tangible action are needed from all. Many societies have moved on from women having to succeed in a man’s world. Collectively everyone everywhere can strive for women’s equality and continue to make positive gains. DKMUL will surely join in such events in future aimed for a good cause” added Hegde.
