Mangaluru: All’s Well that Ends Well!-That’s right. Quoting Shakespeare’s words, “But with the word the time will bring on summer, When briers shall have leaves as well as thorns, All’s well that ends well; still the fine’s the crown; Whatever the course, the end is the renown “- the Summer Camp named “Summer Blast 2018” organized by Heera International School-Shaktinagar from 4 April to 28 April ended with a Blast on the valedictory Ceremony held at the School auditorium today, 28 April, where the 120 Children/Campers who participated in the camp nourished the experiences during the nearly four weeks long exciting days of learning and important values in a fun and wacky way! A bunch of the participants said that the Camp was a great place to make new friends and connect with existing friends, and it did provide great memories for years to come!

With a vision to recognize the imperative of imparting an educational experience that is world-class in every respect and which prepares children for global citizenship, Heera International School started in the year 2015, located in Shakthinagar, Mangaluru, promoted by Nandavan Education Trust®, a sister concern of City Hospital Charitable Trust®, is an English medium co-educational School focusing on CBSE/Montessori oriented curriculum, has an Indian mind, an Indian heart and an Indian soul; it is a school that celebrates the culture of excellence and is an embodiment of values. They believe that a curriculum of excellence with a global dimension is central to the education of children, in preparing them to face the challenges of the 21st century with confidence and strength of character.

In order to : To make children aware and appreciative of their history, culture and traditions, whilst being open to other cultures and alternative views of the world; To provide learning opportunities and activities which appeal to children’s multiple intelligence and which help develop in them multiplicity of perspectives and skills; To encourage children to develop the qualities of self-discipline, positive self-image, resourcefulness, teamwork, spirit of adventure and leadership, Heera International School had organized the “Summer Blast 2018” which is an incredible camp experience where the children learned and interacted in a dynamic and fun environment. During the month-long (April 4th-30th) Camp, children took part in a variety of activities and projects.

The Valedictory programme began through a welcome dance, followed by welcome address and introduction of dignitaries by Miss Anu Rakshitha, a student of Sacred Heart School-Kulshekar, Mangaluru. The closing ceremony of the camp was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp by the Chief guest Prabhakar Shetty- the former Director/Principal of Mahesh PU College Mangaluru; along with other dignitaries on the dais namely-Dr Bhaskar Shetty- President of Nandavan Education Trust (Heera International School), Dr Roshan Shetty- Trustee and Correspondent of the school, Ms Janet Thomas- School Administrator, Ms Shailaja Prabhu-Principal, and Ms Sunitha D’souza-Vice Principal of the School respectively.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Prabhakar Shetty said, “This Camp is indeed a unique concept where children could be kept busy and occupied, instead of wasting their summer holidays doing nothing or wasting on mobile chat and Internet browsing. Such kind of Camps do work to bring changes in your kid’s lives, and I know it since my son who also had taken part in a Summer Camp years ago, had made quite a difference in his personal qualities. But sadly in the present generation, children are glued to their mobiles phones or other electronic gadgets and waste their precious time. Parents should not encourage their children to have mobile phones-give them the phone when they reach a certain teenage age, and not during childhood days”

” Apart from academics, parents should also encourage their children to take up co-curricular activities. It’s nice to know that Heera International School within a short span of time has already reached greater heights, by introducing new concepts, and this Camp being one among them. Parents allow your children to pursue their passions and don’t pressurize them only on academics. Let them have their own choices and freedom to choose what is likeable to them. Also, don’t compare your child’s quality and capacity to the other child-this will hurt their feelings. Your child will grow and develop eventually. Their potential will make them reach greater heights” added Prabhakar Shetty.

Also speaking during the occasion, Dr Bhaskar Shetty said, ” The mission of the School is to provide a learning environment that encourages children to bring out the best in themselves and which supports their all-round development, through discovering the joy of learning, awakening and illuminating their intellect in multi-dimensional ways, and instilling abiding values in themselves. The aim of our school is to develop bright minds, to prepare children for the future and to shape their world; To establish a life-long love of learning; To encourage and enhance good self-esteem; To prepare students for reaching their fullest academic potential. All teachers are experienced and knowledgeable, and the School is equipped with the most modern equipment and software. Instead of children sitting at home during their summer holidays and playing video games or watching TV or browsing through Internet of cit chatting on their mobiles, this Summer Blast gave an ample opportunity for the children to make much use of their time, and learn various art, games, music and other techniques required for them in their future academic career. I am sure with all the training and guidance received from the teachers during the camp, these children from different schools got the best fun and frolic, along with knowledge they needed during their holidays” added Dr Bhaskar Shetty.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Janet Thomas-Administrator of the School said, ” This is the second year that we organized “Summer Blast”- and last year we had nearly 100 children from various schools in and around Mangaluru, and they were all happy to spend their summer holidays in a unique way by involving themselves in fun activities, cultural and sports. This year too the Camp comprised of Art and Craft, Cooking, Drawing, Clay Moulding, Yoga, Movies, Swimming, Zumba, Dance, Field Trips (Tree Park, Pilikula Park, Kadri Park etc), Fun Games and much more. We had experienced teachers who took care of the children and made sure that they felt at home. Transportation facility was also provided to those children living within the City limits. Children surely felt the difference at the camp, in an atmosphere located on the outskirts of Mangaluru surrounded by picturesque and naturalistic nature. We at Heera International school are glad that we made these children happy and worth their time”.

The formal part of the programme was compered by Miss Ashley D’Silva, a student of St Ann’s School, Mangaluru, while the Vote of thanks was proposed by Miss Shaina Jeshma D’souza, of Heera Intl school. Teachers of the School, Ms Reena Monteiro, handled the audio-video presentation, while Ms Akshatha read the names of the children who participated in Camp to receive their Participation Certificate, Souvenir T-Shirt and mementoes from the dignitaries on the dais. Three students namely- Master Ashish Fernandes {St Theresa School-Mangaluru}; Miss Henricka D’souza { Sacred Heart School, Mangaluru} and Miss Sharvani K {St Joseph’s School, Mangaluru} shared their thoughts and experiences during the Camp. Swimming trainer Ramakrishna Rao and Zumba dance trainer Ms Neetha were felicitated during the occasion. The formal function ended with mesmerizing Zumba and Bollywood dance performances by the Camp students.
