Attack on DC and AC at Khandlur, 13 Arrested
Udupi: “Thirteen persons have been arrested in connection with the murder attempt by illegal sand miners at Kandlur on DC Priyanka Mary, AC Shilpa Nag and others by the Kundapur police”, said, SP K T Balakrishna briefing the press at his office, here on April 3.
The arrested have been identified as Pramod (20), Harishanker (28), Rakesh (32), Maniraam (26), Deepu Kumar (20) and Shafeeq (25) all are from Uttar Pradesh. The identity of the other seven is yet to be revealed.
On April 2, night when DC Priyanka Mary along with her gunman and driver, AC Shilpa Nag, her husband and driver had gone to the sand mining area of Kandlur on a surprise visit, on the way they were followed by some people on bikes. Later people mining sand illegally escaped. After some time, more than 50 people gathered and attacked the gunman, drivers, village accountant, DC and the AC. They even threatened to kill them. In this connection, a complaint was filed by DC Priyanka Mary against the attackers.
Based on the complaint the police have now succeeded to arrest 13 persons.
