Bantwal: For Jayanti, daughter of Gulabi and the late Krishnappa Bangera of Kolakiru near Kalladka in the taluk, it was a momentous day on Friday, May 29. For she was to tie the knot with Sridhar in Shri Guru auditorium in Aladangadi of Beltangady taluk at the right ‘muhurtam’.
But she had a date with an important civic duty too. She was keen on exercising her franchise in the panchayat election.
Decked up in full bridal attire and jewellery and other adornment from head to toe, she arrived well ahead at the polling booth in Goltamajal in a car. All attention turned towards her.
Lest she should get delayed at her appointed hour of matrimonial ritual, everyone around allowed her to skip the queues and vote on priority, in appreciation of her commitment towards civic duty.
Soon after casting her vote, she left for Aladangady with family members.
