Bantwal: Deepti Rai (24), daughter of Umesh Rai of Perla, died in a tragic road mishap at B C Road on Friday, Mar 20.
She was engaged to be married to Vinod of Kasaragod district and was pillion-riding with her fiance in his bike.
Her father is based in Mangaluru and she was on her way to meet him. At the B C Road junction, the bike was hit by a tanker, the driver of which was in a hurried attempt to overtake another vehicle.
Deepti was thrown to the road and the wheels of the tanker are said to have passed over her. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but died of critical injuries soon thereafter. Vinod too has sustained injuries and he has been hospitalized.
The town police have registered a case.
