Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha Releases ‘Indian constitution’ Book in Konkani

Mangaluru: The “Indian Constitution”, book in Konkani translation was released by the Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha at the Rosario Cathedral after the Easter Vigil Mass on April 20.

After releasing the book speaking on the occasion Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said, “Indian constitution is a great light which is leading us forward; it has led our nation in the path of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. May this great powerhouse influenced by the spirit of the Mahatma and the founding fathers lead us forward and enable us to achieve the fruits of our freedom struggle to its fullest extent. The voiceless need the strength of our constitution most”.

The Bishop also dealt on the fact that however good the constitution is, if it is put in bad hands it cannot be implemented properly, therefore the need of the hour is not only to study it, respect it but to make all-out attempts to strengthen it, putting it in the hands of right people. When we speak about our rights we should also remember to speak about our duties and constitutional responsibilities, he said.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of India wants every student studying in its Institutes to learn and understand the provisions of our constitution, CBCI wishes that this will make future generations more sensitive to the needs of our great nation and our youth will, in turn, become responsible and responsive citizens. In his address, he asked all Konkani speaking people to make use of this book to the fullest extent possible. He appreciated the hard work put in by the Diocesan Commission for Lay Faithful and thanked the Diocesan committee for Citizen awareness and Development for their support in this great task.
