Brothers Die of Asphyxiation while Rescuing Calf from Well

Kasargod: Two brothers died of asphyxiation while they were trying to rescue a calf that had fallen in the open well at Subbayya Katte, Paivalike on May 27.

The deceased have been identified as Narayanan (50) and his younger brother Sankaran (40) from Subbayya Katte, Paivalike Kasaragod.

According to sources, on May 27 morning Narayanan saw that a calf had fallen in the open well. He used a rope and got down into the well to lift the calf. After he lowered himself in the well, he lost consciousness. His younger brother, who noticed it got down in the well to help Narayanan, but he too fell unconscious. When the neighbours heard his cry for help, they rushed to help them, but unfortunately could not save their lives.

The locals then informed the fire service and lifted both the brothers from the well, but both had breathed their last. The calf was also lifted from the well and is out of danger.

Both the brothers were daily wage labourers.
