Cheers! Sun, Sand and Beer at ‘Oktoberfest’ hosted by MRT-115

Cheers! It was great Time for some Sun, Sand and Beer at the City’s biggest party of the season ‘Oktoberfest’ hosted ( the Team that brings you “Reflections”- Mangaluru’s Hippest and Safest New Year Party) by Mangalore Round Table-115 (MRT-115) and Mangalore Ladies Circle-82,(MLC-82) at Golden Reef, facing the Panambur Beach on a Beautiful Sunny Sunday, 23 October from 11 am till 8 pm–and the proceeds from this event will go towards building a class room for Bikarnakatte Government School- Mangaluru.

Mangaluru: “We are Party Animals…We are Party Animals…Hum Hain Party Animals” by Meet Bros and Poonam Kay could be the befitting song for all these Kudla’s Party Animals who landed at the “Golden Reef’- a beach-side lounge near Panambur Beach for the biggest party, the “Beach-Side Oktoberfest Brunch” on a Beautiful Sunny Sunday, 23 October 2016, from 11 am to 8 pm- until everyone decided that they had enough to Eat, Drink and be Merry. If Germans can party hard at Oktoberfest, why not Mangaloreans- and that’s what these Mangaloreans showed the world that they too can party, like Germans. “Lass uns Party machen”-that’s German for “Let’s Party!”

One of the most important ‘Oktoberfest’ words, ‘Prost’ is German for ‘Cheers’ .You will notice that Oktoberfest visitors like having a toast before drinking, a so-called Prosit. Alternatively, you could also say ‘Zum Wohl’ (‘To your health’). Whichever words they wanted to use, “Cheers” or “Prost”, for those who believed Life should be nothing short of a carnival!- the ‘Oktoberfest’ fun which originated in Munich-Germany happened right here in this Coastal City. Revelers doused their spirits in the best of Bavarian gastronomic journey as the organizers brought the First and Only Beerfest on the beach-side, where they could sip 25 different varieties of “cold ones?”. Why go to Munich-Germany, when you could celebrate ‘Oktoberfest’ right here in your hometown- and that’s what 300 folks did, a number that was limited by the organizers.

If at all the First Oktoberfest party kicked off in the year 1810 in Munich-Germany, but it took nearly 206 years to have Kudla’s Biggest “Oktoberfest’ Beach-Side Brunch party here in the picturesque and Coastal town-Mangaluru-thanks to the efforts put in by the members of MRT-115 and MLC-82 to make this event happen, thereby giving an opportunity for the hard core party people of Kudla to party more. With all kinds of games, performances, food and of course, copious amounts of beer. And if the revelers were still not convinced- there was Beer Pong.

Promising to replicate the madness and fun of the original Oktoberfest in Munich, the “Beach-Side Oktoberfest Brunch” didn’t disappoint anyone, instead got praises from everyone who patronized the event. They all went for the beer, stayed for more beer, drinking games (Beer Pong), food that cured their drinking munchies and of course, a live Dj performance by City’s top Dj duo Lalith and Rizwan, who belted out some party music, from techno-rap-EDM-rock-pop and so on, which kept the revelers swinging on the dance floor- and all sorts of other entertainment. So this extravaganza was for everyone who was up there for fun on the one hand, and a pint of beer on the other! Cheer to that, eh? All this brought to life by Kingfisher-for the Good Times! An exclusive Bar Booth managed by the “Martini” crew, whose only task was to dole out bottles/glasses of cold ones. Sounded almost like paradise! Yes, Kudla had our own version of Oktoberfest right here in the city- thanks to Kingfisher, for it was a ball of a time. Of course, we couldn’t expect liquor barren Vijaya Malya to throw a beer party (or, can we?) but we did had Oktoberfest come to town in a whole new format-thanks to MRT-115 and MLC-82.

Twenty five varieties of ‘Cold Ones” namely Royal Challenge Strong, Knock Out, Foster, UB Strong/Premium, Kingfisher Strong/Premium, Carlsberg, Kingfisher Ultra, Kingfisher Ultra Max, Budweiser Magnum, Corona, Budweiser, Heineken, Budweiser, Hoegaarden, Stella Artois, Miller, Tuborg Premium, Haywards 5000, Tuborg strong, Tiger, etc quenched the thirst? Chug it in…chug it in! In the Beer Chugging Champ contest, Vishnu Sadan chugged in a pint of beer quicker than his opponent to win the coveted “Beer Chugging Champ” of MRT Oktoberfest. Cute and dressed to thrill, Miss Rochelle kept the audience lively through her professional compere talents, with some added witty punchlines.

Time for beer, beer, and more beer, right? Yes, you know the German brewfest is officially on when the music goes Bavarian, the beer flows freely and you take in the October air. While the Germans wash downed their sauerkraut and bratwurst with a pint, but here locally Mangaloreans washed downed their Crispy chicken, chicken sausages, Paneer fry, with a pint, let me brief you on the global festival.Oktoberfest originated in Munich, Germany, and has now become a tradition. The festival goes on for 16 days culminating on the first Sunday of October. It is now celebrated all over the world with beer as the center of attraction, of course. The festivities actually begin in September, and carry on till the end of October. With Mangaluru being home to so many bars and pubs, they’ve all got the liquid gold on their mind and their menus. So the party people didn’t had to make it to Munich, because MRT-115 brought the festivities straight from the Schottenhamel tent-Munich right to your city’s beach front-Panambur.

Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. Locally, it is often called the Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds (Theresienwiese). The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modeled after the original Munich event. The first celebration of ‘Oktoberfest’ was held to mark the wedding Kronprinz Ludwig (1786-1868), later King Ludwig I (reign: 1825-1848), who married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12,1810.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Royster Alex D’Souza- Chairman of MRT-115 said, ” The Mangalore Round Table 115 has focused on carrying out several development projects across the city of Mangaluru. In the last 3 years alone, we have donated dialysis machines to the government Wenlock hospital, built a public toilet at Pilikula Nisarga Dhama, donated clothes and books worth over 25 lakhs to various schools and orphanages across the city and supported various government schools by building toilet blocks and donating water purifiers. Apart from other charitable activities, we actively promote ‘Go Green’ initiatives. We distributed 100 CFL bulbs to Bikarnakatte Government School in the presence of the local Corporator. We had also planted more than 200 saplings in the Vamanjoor dump yard. Impact being, these saplings in future will act as a shield to protect the environment from the hazardous gases which is emitted from the dump yard.
