CODP holds Motivational programme ‘Women for Good Governance’

Mangaluru: Members of various Self-Help Groups and Federations participated in a motivational programme arranged for their benefit on how to prepare for Panchayat elections. This programme was held on 7th March 2020 in Mother Theresa hall of CODP-ISD, Mangaluru.

The day’s programme commenced with a prayer by CODP staff and a word of welcome to the Director of CODP Fr Oswald Monteiro, Asst Director Fr Vincent D’Souza, resource person Shalet Pinto and the participants present for the programme.

Fr Oswald Monteiro gave a brief introduction of the day’s topic. Citing the victory of AAP in Delhi he said, “people have elected a government which provided for basic needs like electricity, water, education and jobs. Similarly, candidates aspiring to win at the local level need to respond to the basic needs of the people in the area. So, begin to serve people impartially and get recognized. People will vote for you”. He then introduced the resource person, Shalet Pinto, D.K. Zilla Mahila Congress President, and requested her to take over the sessions.

Shalet explained in detail regarding the skills required to contest elections, documents to be provided when filing nominations, what kind of services can be promised and provided to the people. She also answered a lot of queries that came from the participants. The sessions were interactive and informative, and well appreciated by the prospective contestants.

41 members participated in the programme. The sessions were compeered by Lenet Gonsalves, Program Manager of CODP and the vote of thanks was delivered by an SHG member.
