College Students Commit Suicide by Consuming Poison

Mangaluru: Two students from Kasargod studying in a reputed College in Moodbidri committed suicide by consuming poison in a hotel room near the Mangaluru Railway Station here on October 13.

The deceased have been identified as Vishnu (22) and Greeshma (21). Both the students are from Kerala, Kasargod District.

According to primary reports, Vishnu and Greeshma hailing from Kasargod were studying in a college in Moodbidri and were in love. The family members opposed their relationship as both belonged to different castes.

On October 13, Vishnu and Greeshma came to Mangaluru and rented a room in a hotel near the Mangaluru Central Railway station and consumed rat poison.

According to the police, Greeshma was studying Physiotherapy in a reputed college in Mangaluru and Vishnu was studying MSc in Food and Nutrition in a college in Moodbidri. From past One-and-half years, Vishnu and Greeshma were in love but they were afraid of their parents. On October 10, both Vishnu and Greeshma came to Mangaluru and rented a room in a hotel near the railway station.

Fearing action from their parents both consumed juice mixed with poison. As soon as the hotel authorities came to know about it, they immediately informed the Pandeshwar police and both were shifted to the hospital.

Hearing the news that Vishnu had consumed poison, his father came to Magnaluru and shifted them to a private hospital but Vishnu breathed his last on October 13, at 1:15 am. Later the same day at 3:15 pm Greeshma too breathed her last.

Vishnu’s body has been handed over to the family members after the post-mortem in a private hospital and the post-mortem of Greeshma’s body will be done on October 14.

According to sources, it is learnt that Greeshma in her statement to the police had said that fear of their parents not approving their relationship led them to end their life.
