Congress Govt Responsible for Communal Disturbances in DK – JD(S)

Mangaluru: “The JD(S) will hold ‘Santhiya Nade’, a peace march in the City on July 22. We had planned to hold the march on July 14 but since the permission was denied, we had to cancel our programme. On July 13, I had asked the party leaders to attend the Peace meet before boycotting it. According to my order, the members of JD(S) boycotted the Peace meet for not giving permission to hold ‘Shanthiya Nade”, said the District President of JD(S) Mohammed Kunhi in a press meet held at JD(S) office here on July 14.

Addressing the mediapersons Mohammed Kunhi said, “On July 15, former Prime Minister H D Devegowda, State President H D Kumaraswamy, all the 48 MLAs and the students from various Institutions had consented to take part in the Peace March from Light House Hill Road to the DC office and the programme was scheduled to be held in the Town Hall. In the beginning, the DC agreed to give permission but later he said that he had to discuss the matter with the Police. The permission was later denied and we had to cancel our programme. We will hold the same programme on July 22 since section 144 is in force in the district”.

Mohammed Kunhi further blamed the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah for all the communal violence in the district. He said that the District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai is afraid that if H D Devegowda comes to Mangaluru he may lose votes.”

JD(S) Youth President Akshith Suvarna and others were also present.
