Countdown Begins for Gammath Kalavider UAE’s Tulu Stage Play ‘Ponaga Konopaara’

Dubai, UAE: Gammath Kalavider UAE, a prominent cultural organization dedicated to the promotion of the Tulu language and theatrical arts within the Gulf region, is poised to present its highly anticipated original Tulu play, ‘Ponaga Konopaara,’ on Friday, October 11, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the prestigious Emirates Theatre, Umm Al Sheif, Dubai. The organization anticipates a large audience, drawn from across the Emirates, to witness this significant contribution to Tulu cultural expression.

‘Ponaga Konopaara,’ penned by the esteemed Dinakar Bhandari Kannajar, has been meticulously adapted for the stage by the acclaimed theatre artist Jagadish Shetty Kenchanakere. The directorial vision for this production rests with the well-known Rangasaarathi Vishwanath Shetty. In a statement released earlier this week, Shetty commented on the play’s unique appeal: “Ponaga Konopaara blends tradition and humour in a way that connects with the diaspora. It’s been created with Gulf audiences in mind and promises to leave a lasting impact.” His remarks underscore the play’s deliberate focus on resonating with the Tulu-speaking community residing in the Gulf.

The production will feature original music meticulously composed by Rohan Lobo Kalakulu, which will enhance the overall theatrical experience. Stage design and setup are being handled by Dubai Source, promising a vibrant and immersive environment for the audience. The collaboration of these talented individuals and organizations highlights the dedication to delivering a high-quality artistic presentation.

The event is expected to be attended by several distinguished guests, reflecting the widespread support for Tulu arts and culture. Among those expected to attend are Eshwar Malpe, a well-known social worker and expert diving expert, and Dr. M.J. Praveen Bhat, a renowned astrologer and President of the Sion Kannada Sangha, Mumbai. Furthermore, a diverse array of dignitaries, local drama enthusiasts, community leaders, and entrepreneurs from across the UAE will be in attendance, further underscoring the growing appreciation for Tulu artistic endeavors within the region. The organizers believe the play will serve as a catalyst for further promoting the Tulu language and culture among the diaspora.
