COVID-19 Lockdown: Frustrated over not getting Work, Karkala Native Temple Priest Commits Suicide in Mumbai

Karkala: A 37-year-old temple priest, native of Neere Bailur, Karkala committed suicide in Mumbai on April 15, for not getting work in the temples due to the Lockdown.

The deceased has been identified as Krishna Shanthi (37), a resident of Neere Bailur, Karkala Taluk. He committed suicide at the Kandivali Temple premises in Mumbai.

According to sources, Krishna Shanthi had gone to Mumbai to perform pujas on a temporary basis at Bhadrakali Temple in Kandivali area, Mumbai on March 17. Soon after Krishna Shanthi reached Mumbai, lockdown was clamped across the country. Locals said that he was desperately moving around during the last few days enquiring about places and temples where he could perform pujas.

On March 15, Krishna Shanthi was found hanging in his room in the Temple premises. The Local police have registered a case and investigation is on.
