COVID-19: Udupi DC, SP visit Malls and Malpe Fishing Port – Warns People to Follow Govt Guidelines

Udupi: Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha on Tuesday, March 24 made a surprise visit to various Malls in the City and gathered information about the precautionary measures taken while selling essential commodities.

The team lead by DC G Jagadeesha along with SP Vishnuvardhan and team visited the Reliance Mart, City Center Mall, Big Bazaar and inspected the precautionary measures taken to avoid Covid-19 including screening and the use of sanitizer at the entrance.

The Deputy Commissioner ordered to take action against the Big Bazar manager for violating the government orders and selling the vegetables at a high price.

Later Deputy Commissioner visited the Malpe fisheries port and warned of action if more than 5 people gathered at a place.

Strict action against those violating prohibitory orders, says DC

G Jagadeesha has warned of initiating strict action against those who violated prohibitory orders in Udupi district.

He told media at his office that the government had issued clear guidelines on implementing the lockdown.

“The rules can be relaxed for emergency services,” he said. Over 900 persons, who had come from foreign countries, had been identified and ordered to be under home quarantine.

Posters have been pasted on the doors of the houses of
these families and any violations of home quarantine period will not be tolerated, he warned. Beat police will visit their houses and neighbours have been asked to inform police by dialing 1077 and 100 if anyone was found violating the home quarantine period, he added.

Jagadeesha assured that there was no shortage of essential commodities. The truck drivers carrying goods like fruits, vegetables and other grocery items from neighbouring districts would be screened and allowed inside the district.

The deputy commissioner warned shopkeepers and people against hoarding and selling essential goods at a high price.

Only takeaway service is allowed in hotels. If anyone violates the rules, then action will be initiated against them. The shop owners should maintain six-ft distance from the customers, he added.

‘No positive case’

Jagadeesha added that no Covid-19 positive case was reported from the district till now. The District Government Hospital has been identified to treat patients affected by Covid-19 and not any other patients. While a 150-bed ward is kept ready in SDM Ayurveda Hospital in Udyavara, another 100-bed ward is set up at KMC-Manipal, he added.

Fishing activities

Entrepreneurs who have employed workers should announce paid holiday and should not terminate them. Fishing boats are banned from venturing into the sea for fishing. Fishing boats from outside the district will not be allowed inside Malpe harbour, the deputy commissioner added.

Only those fishing boats from harbour returning to dock will be allowed.

Jagadeesha visited Malpe port and warned the fishermen against carrying out any fishing. Malpe harbour will witness total shutdown from Wednesday, he declared.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan appealed to the people to adhere to the rules as it was the need of the hour.
