Dakshina Kannada District on High Alert Following Heavy Rainfall
Mangalore: In light of the persistent heavy rainfall, DC Mullai Muhilan has issued a directive mandating full vigilance across the region. All Tahsildars and Incident Commanders have been instructed to immediately evacuate families residing in vulnerable dwellings to designated relief centers or secure locations.
A heightened state of vigilance is to be maintained in areas susceptible to flooding, with all necessary rescue equipment prepared for immediate deployment. Stringent precautions are to be implemented to avert potential loss of life or injuries. District officials have mandated the continuous operation of control rooms within all taluks and municipal corporations to ensure seamless coordination.
DC Muhilan has cautioned that any negligence in natural disaster response operations will result in severe consequences.
Over the weekend, DC Muhilan, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, conducted site visits to various locations within the city impacted by rainwater accumulation. The officials assessed the functionality of the pump well and engaged in discussions with relevant authorities regarding rainwater drainage solutions.
To date, twelve families affected by rainwater intrusion into their residences in areas such as Attavar have been relocated to a temporary rehabilitation center established within the old corporation building premises. Municipal Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak personally inspected the relief center to ensure adequate provision of food and essential supplies to the displaced families.
Saturday evening’s heavy downpour led to the collapse of the compound wall of the Yamuna Residency residential complex near the Maroli SuryaNarayana Temple, resulting in property damage estimated in the lakhs. Furthermore, the boundary wall of the Father Muller institution also collapsed onto Suvarna Lane Road near 4th Cross Road, necessitating ongoing efforts to clear debris from the roadway. The incident also resulted in damage to a nearby electric pole.
