Death and Extortion Threats Over Anna Bhagya Rice; Three Arrested, Including Congress Leader
Udupi: Kota police have arrested three persons, including a Congress leader, in connection with an alleged case involving death and extortion threats over the distribution of rice under the state government’s Anna Bhagya scheme.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nagendra Putran, 37, a Congress leader and resident of Gobbarabettu in Kotathattu village; P. Sumanth Kundar, 40, of Padukere in Parampalli village; and Sachin Shreeyan, 32, of Sasthana.
According to the police, a case was registered at the Kota Police Station after the accused allegedly abused a person using offensive language, threatened to kill him, and demanded money from him on August 31 over the issue of storing bags of Anna Bhagya rice in the courtyard of his house.
The arrests were made by a team from the Kota Police Station under the guidance of Udupi Sub-Divisional Deputy Superintendent of Police K.U. Belliyappa and Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna. The team was led by Police Sub-Inspectors Praveen Kumar R. and Mahantesh Jabagouda, along with police personnel Vijayendra, Sharath and Shivraj.
Police said Nagendra Putran and P. Sumanth Kundar were arrested on September 2 near the exhibition ground opposite Mysore Palace in Mysuru district. They were subsequently produced before the court.
Police said another accused, Sachin Shreeyan, was arrested on September 1 and produced before the court.
