Dr. Gillaine Pinto Awarded Ph.D. for Research in Microbiology
Mangaluru: Dr. Gillaine Vail Pinto has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) for her thesis titled “Circulating microRNAs as Novel Biomarkers for Leptospirosis.” Her research work explored the diagnostic potential of circulating microRNAs in the detection of leptospirosis and also investigated the prevalent Leptospiral serogroups among infected patients in the Mangaluru region.
She pursued her doctoral studies under the guidance of Dr. Krishna Kumar B., Associate Professor, Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbial Genomics, at the Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research, Nitte (Deemed to be University).
Her doctoral advisory committee included Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director, DST NU-TEC; Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER and Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences; Dr. Praveen Rai, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Infectious Diseases & Microbial Genomics, NUCSER; and Dr. Shama Prakash K., Professor, Department of General Medicine, KSHEMA.
A resident of Kulshekar, Mangaluru, Dr. Pinto is the daughter of Mr. Ronald J. Pinto and Mrs. Noreen Pinto, and sister of Mr. Rynor Gawain Pinto.
