DSO to Hold Death Anniversary of RTI Activist Vinayak Baliga
Mangaluru: On 21 march, 2017 a year would have elapsed since the brutal murder of the RTI activist Vinayak Baliga. After his murder a number of attempts have been made to sideline the investigations, the accused have somehow managed to come out on bail and investigations have almost come to a standstill. The family continues to suffer from their economic losses, the loss of two main pillars because a few months ago Vinayak Baliga’s mother Jayanti Baliga too passed away. With his father Ramachandra Baliga in indifferent health with two unmarried sisters at home their condition at best said to be pathetic.
Some of us having been treading the path set by Baliga. His sister and I are pursuing the case of Sharada Vidyalaya against whom he had filed a complaint about the illegal building exceeding the sanctioned area. The cases he has filed against the Venkatramana Temple have not reached any logical conclusion as the re-audit of the accounts cannot proceed as the auditor appointed by the court who had first agreed to do the task has retreated due to his fear about the sectary of his staff. The legal battles have just begun as the accused with the money power and backing of highly placed people have brought stumbling blocks at each stage of the long drawn legal process.
Despite of all these we who have at the forefront of the movement have been trying our best to fight these forces who are trying to sideline the investigations. As a tribute to Baliga, we have planned a programme on March 21. His daily routine was to start from his home and go to the Venkatramana Temple car street to offer prayers before his daily tasks, one of which was to visit a nearby hotel to bring breakfast and beverages for his parents. We are going to undertake this journey in reverse starting from the temple at 4 pm and walking up to the spot where he was brutally murdered, offer tributes to him and have a public meeting at CBEU hall nearby at 5 pm.
