Ethnic Day Celebrated by Father Muller Student Council Bodies
Mangalore: The collegium of students from the educational units of Father Muller Charitable Institutions brought the campus alive with a festival-themed competitive variety event during the triple festive commemoration on September 5, 2025.

The programme was presided over by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director, FMCI, and coordinated by Rev. Dr Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, FMMC/FMCOAHS/FMCOP, and Dr Antony Sylvan Dsouza, Dean, FMMC. The student councils of the three campuses—Kanakanady, Deralakatte, and Thumbay—celebrated in unison Teachers’ Day, Onam, and Eid-e-Milad.
A festive procession was flagged off from the Carmel Hostel Grounds, with colleges showcasing the theme of Indian festivity through dhol and chende, vibrant colours, music, dance, cheers, and applause. The management committee, comprising priests in administration along with the Deans and Principals, walked alongside the students in the parade.

The Father Muller Convention Centre then resounded with the traditional Pili Vesha dance and Chende performance, stirring the spirits of all gathered. A prayer dance by the students of Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing opened the stage events, followed by a symbolic inaugural in which MC members poured colours, spices, and lentils, ringing in the festive mood. This inaugural segment was organized by the Father Muller College of Physiotherapy (FMCOP). Mr Shashank Shrey, Student Council President of FMMC, welcomed the gathered and revved up the audience for the upcoming performance.
Teachers’ Day was marked by a song presentation from Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS) and Father Muller Allied Health Sciences College (FMAHSC), Thumbay, evoking a spirit of gratitude. Dr Blany Dsouza, Professor of Homoeopathy Pharmacy, delivered the Teachers’ Day address, highlighting the eternal and rewarding bond between teacher and student.

In his presidential address, Fr. Faustine expressed gratitude to all faculty members for their silent dedication in shaping students and serving as mentors and guides. He remarked with joy that Utsav coincided with multiple festivities, symbolizing India’s diversity, prosperity, and inter-religious harmony. “Though strife exists at times, humanity in every religion prevails,” he said, praising the student councils of the three campuses for their active role in the Institution’s progress. He wished them continued blessings and success.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Ishrath Fathima Abbasi, President of the Student Council, FMCOP. This marked the close of the formal programme and opened the stage for the competitive segment of Utsav 2025 – Ethnic Day Celebrations, where teams showcased genres from Onam, Holi, Dasara, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navaratri, Deepavali, and the Nativity of Mother Mary.

The competition was judged by Ms Remona Evette Pereira (Golden Book of Records Fame), Mr DJ Dixon Machado (multi-talented artist), and Mr Vinayak Acharya (choreographer).
