Father Muller College of Nursing Celebrates Research Day 2026

Mangalore: The Research Cell of Father Muller College of Nursing (FMCON) organized its annual Research Day on March 20, 2026. The event aimed to cultivate research and innovation among nursing students and faculty, featuring academic competitions, a research quiz, and an awards ceremony recognizing significant contributions.

The day began at 9:00 AM with competitions for undergraduate nursing students from both FMCON and Father Muller College of Nursing Technology (FMNCT). Events included scientific paper presentations, concept paper presentations, and thematic poster displays. A panel of distinguished judges—Dr. Priya Reshma Aranha, Professor and Vice-Principal of Yenepoya Nursing College; Dr. Madhurima Nayak, Assistant Professor at Father Muller Medical College (FMMC); Dr. Jenifer D’Souza, Professor at Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing; and Dr. Nishanth Krishna, Professor at FMMC—evaluated students on originality, methodology, and potential impact on nursing practice.

Following the morning sessions, a research quiz competition was held at 1:30 PM. The quiz, conducted by Dr. Animesh Jain, Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, saw participation from 15 teams representing various nursing colleges in the Mangalore region. The competitive atmosphere and challenging questions showcased the students’ knowledge and enthusiasm for research.

The Research Day culminated in a valedictory ceremony held at 3:30 PM. The ceremony was presided over by Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI); Dr. Shivashankara AR, Chief Guest and Principal of Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, Mangalore; Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Guest of Honour and Head of the Research Centre; and Sr. Prof. Dr. Dhanya Devasia, Principal of FMCON.

A highlight of the valedictory ceremony was the recognition of student and staff achievements in research. Awards were presented in categories such as student researcher, staff research patent/copyright, publications/paper presentation, grants, book/chapter contributions, and an overall exemplary researcher award.

Dr. Shycil Mathew, Professor in the Department of Community Health Nursing, received the prestigious overall exemplary researcher award, which included a grant and recognition for her paper/poster presentation. Dr. Sonia Karen Liz Sequera, Professor in the Department of Community Health Nursing, shared the Poster/Paper presentation award. Dr. Sandra Saldanha, Professor in the Department of Child Health Nursing, was honored with the Research Patent and book/chapter award.

The Research Day at FMCON served as a platform to celebrate research excellence and encourage ongoing scholarly pursuits within the nursing community. The event underscored the commitment of Father Muller College of Nursing to fostering innovation and advancing the nursing profession through evidence-based practice.
