Father Muller Medical College Hosts ‘Scintilla-10’ National Level Intercollegiate Quiz in Biochemistry
Mangalore: Department of Biochemistry, FMMC organized National level quiz in Biochemistry for I MBBS students on 24th May 2025. This is for the 10th time that “Scintilla” is organized.
“Scintilla-10” was inaugurated by Dr Vivian D’souza, Professor of Biochemistry, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences. The senior teacher who had three decades of teaching experience at KMC Mangalore and a decade in Kanachur Institute, had inaugurated 1st and 9th editions of Scintilla. In his address, Dr Vivian appreciated the way in which this quiz is being conducted. He lauded the efforts of Team Biochemistry of FMMC for meticulous planning, team work and the standard of questions being asked. The event was presided by Rev Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI. He congratulated the Team Biochemistry for the successful conduct of Scintilla and for making it a national level brand of FMMC. On the dias during the inaugural were, Rev Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, the designate director of FMCI; Dr Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean of FMMC; Dr Maitreyee DS, Professor and Head of Biochemistry; and Dr Shivashankara AR, Professor of Biochemistry and Organizing Secretary. Managing committee members, heads and faculty of various departments of FMMC; Biochemistry faculty from other institutions and students attended the inaugural ceremony.
Total of 54 teams all over India participated in the event. After the preliminary round, 12 teams qualified for the semifinals from which 6 teams participated in the Finals. There were multiple choice questions, fill in the blank, sequencing, visuals, answer with hints, rapid fire, story, case-based questions, and various other types of questions in the quiz.
Finally, team from AIIMS Mangalagiri emerged as the champions of Scintilla-10, while the first and second runner up were Bellary Medical College and FMMC respectively.
