FIFA reports heavy sale of Confederations Cup tickets

Moscow, Nov 18 (IANS) Almost 50,000 tickets have been sold for FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 matches in Russia during the pre-sale period of November 8-17.

Tickets went on sale on November 8. Visa cardholders were the first to get an opportunity to purchase tickets via the Visa pre-sale. The price of group stage tickets starts from 960 rubles (about $14.84) in category 4 (exclusively for Russian citizens) and from $70 for category 3 (all other fans), reports Tass.

“48,504 tickets have been sold during the Visa pre-sale period for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017,” FIFA said in a press release.

“As is customary for this competition, 95% per cent of the pre-sale tickets went to fans from the host country, followed by supporters from Chile, Germany, USA, Mexico, England, Spain, Brazil, France and Australia,” the statement added.

The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup will be held between June 17 and July 2 at four stadiums in Russia. The venues are the Otkritie-Arena here, the Zenit Arena in St. Petersburg, Fisht in Sochi and Kazan Arena in Kazan.

Seven nations have already qualified for the 2017 Confederations Cup including hosts Russia, 2014 FIFA World Cup Champions Germany, 2015 Copa America Champions Chile, 2015 AFC Asian Cup Champions Australia, 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup winners Mexico, 2016 UEFA Euro Cup winners Portugal and Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup winners New Zealand.

The remaining eighth nation will be determined following the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The draw for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup will be held on November 26 in Kazan.
